PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a 24-year-old labourer for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl with special needs, whom he met through the Litmatch app.

In a statement, Ampang Jaya police chief Azam Ismail said the suspect was arrested at his home in Subang at 10pm last Wednesday.

According to Azam, the teen’s mother filed a report on Aug 17 after discovering that the CCTV in the family’s living room in their house in Taman Saga, Ampang, had been disconnected and that the suspect had allegedly raped her daughter.

“The victim had disconnected the CCTV when she allowed the suspect into their home,” he said.

“The suspect tested negative for drugs. A remand order for the suspect was granted for five days, until today, and an extension is being applied for.”

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code, punishable with up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

However, under the same section, if the rapist is aware of the woman’s mental disability, emotional disorder, or physical handicap, he could be sentenced to 10 to 30 years’ jail and whipping if convicted.
