KUALA LUMPUR:
Malaysia will consider treating more injured Palestinians if there is a need, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Speaking to reporters at the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Mosque this morning, he said the current focus is on treating those already here.

“We will repatriate them once they have recovered. Once the situation over there calms down, we will continue talks with Egypt, which is sheltering refugees, as well as Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar.

“It is too early to make further decisions,” he said.

Earlier this month, Malaysia brought in 41 injured Palestinians for further treatment at a military hospital here. They were transported here from Cairo by the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

Anwar dismissed criticisms by some Malaysians against the humanitarian mission to treat the injured Palestinians as being political in nature, calling them symptoms of a “disease of jealousy”.

“That’s why they insult us like this. Don’t take the insults too far,” he said.
