PKR leaving ex-MP sexual harassment probe to police

PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil says the party will not tolerate sexual misconduct by its members.

PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said he would follow up with the police on a case of sexual harassment at the Sungai Bakap by-election last month.
PUTRAJAYA:
PKR has left it to the police to investigate a former MP accused of sexual harassment, says party information chief Fahmi Fadzil.

He said PKR would not tolerate any member being involved in sexual misconduct.

“We have yet to receive any information, and we will leave it to the police to conduct the investigation,” he said at a media briefing.

Police are investigating an allegation of sexual harassment by a woman against a former MP at a supermarket in Kota Damansara, Selangor.

Petaling Jaya police chief Shahrulnizam Ja’afar said the investigation began after an 18-second video about the allegation went viral.

The suspect is believed to be a non-executive director in a statutory body.

In a related matter, Fahmi, who is also communications minister, said he would be asking the police about another sexual harassment case, in which a journalist alleged she was harassed during the Sungai Bakap by-election in July.

Yesterday, Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad, who confirmed the matter, said the decision to classify the case as no further action was made by the deputy public prosecutor’s office.

“I just received the information on the matter and intend to raise it with the police,” Fahmi said.
