PETALING JAYA:
A Bersatu Youth leader has urged the authorities to investigate a video on Suara Keadilan’s YouTube channel which he claimed doctored Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s speech during the Nenggiri by-election campaign.

Perikatan Nasional Youth election director Akmal Zahin Zainal claimed the video on the PKR mouthpiece was uploaded with a photo of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

He said the video did not contain the full speech Muhyiddin delivered and, thus, was taken out of context.

Akmal Zahin, who filed a report at the Dang Wangi police station today, said the title of the video, combined with the excerpt of Muhyiddin’s speech and Sultan Abdullah’s photo, created a false impression about the speech.

He also alleged that the video was intended to incite the public and stir up tensions, adding it had been deliberately edited to manipulate and advance a political narrative.

A check by FMT found that the video was not available.

“The content and title of the video had been crafted, edited and published with malicious intent and shared on social media to mislead the public into believing that Muhyiddin opposes Sultan Abdullah,” he said.

Muhyiddin had courted controversy when he questioned why he was not invited by Sultan Abdullah to become the prime minister after the 2022 general election.

The PN chairman said he had obtained a majority, and had the backing of enough MPs to form the government.

His remarks led to a number of police reports lodged against him and a rebuke by the Pahang crown prince, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, who said Muhyiddin had “deliberately” disparaged the former king.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin defended his remarks, which are now the subject of a police investigation, saying they were factual, not meant to incite the public, and not intended to insult the monarchy.

‘Probe social media account impersonating PAS mouthpiece’

Akmal Zahin lodged a separate report urging the authorities to act against the owner and operator of a social media account for impersonating PAS mouthpiece Harakahdaily.

He also called on the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to issue a legal notice to X to ensure the platform acts against the account for masquerading as a legitimate entity and frequently posting defamatory, false and offensive content.

Akmal Zahin said he came across a post on the account which featured a photo of himself, deputy PN Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal and another PN Youth leader.

He said the caption stated that PN will reject the 2025 budget if it won the Nenggiri by-election, which may affect salary increases for public servants.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said civil servants will be getting salary increments of between 7% and 15% under the new Public Service Remuneration System.

Akmal Zahin said the post is defamatory and could provoke anger among certain groups, especially civil servants, potentially endangering the safety of individuals depicted in the post.

“It appears to be an attempt to create a negative perception and harm PN’s reputation,” he said. “This fake social media account has previously made numerous defamatory, offensive and malicious posts.

“This particular post clearly incites and attempts to deceive voters not to support PN/PAS in the Nenggiri by-election on Aug 17.”

Barisan Nasional’s Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani secured a 3,352-vote majority against PN’s Rizwadi Ismail in the Nenggiri by-election.
