PETALING JAYA:
Police have detained 46 Myanmar nationals believed to have been brought into the country illegally by a syndicate across the Thai border.

They were picked up from two transit homes operated by the syndicate, known as the Aun.

Those arrested did not possess valid travel documents, Bernama reported Bukit Aman CID D3 principal assistant director Soffian Santong as saying.

Soffian said 31 Myanmar nationals were arrested at a flat in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan, in a raid at 11pm yesterday.

Another 15 were found staying at a terrace house in Meru, Klang, at 5am this morning.

“We found that six of them, including a woman, acted as the transit home caretakers, agents to prepare homes or as transporters.”

The six, aged 30 to 43, are being investigated for trafficking and immigration offences.

Soffian said the remaining Myanmar nationals – 25 men and 15 women – were aged 22 to 40.

He said the raided locations were managed by the same syndicate.

“The flat in Mantin and the terrace house in Meru are believed to have been used to hide illegal migrants.”

The migrants had each paid the agents RM4,000 to smuggle them into the country. They were asked to pay an additional RM850 to a Myanmar agent for accommodation and protection while waiting to secure jobs.
