BN skips offering a manifesto for Nenggiri

Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said manifestos are ineffective if promises are not fulfilled.

Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said BN will focus on the strength and commitment of its candidate, Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani.
PETALING JAYA:
Barisan Nasional will not launch a manifesto for the Nenggiri by-election, and will instead rely on the strength of its candidate, Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, says Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.

He said Azmawi represents BN’s commitment to serving the people if given the mandate on Aug 17, and that a manifesto would not attract voters.

“What’s the point of having a manifesto like Perikatan Nasional? They haven’t done a single thing, yet they continue to deceive the people in this by-election,” he said, according to Berita Harian.

“Enough of deceiving the people because the residents here are now wise,” he said, in a reference to the Central Spine Road (CSR) project. “PAS promised in its manifesto to build that highway, but in the end, who completed it? It was the federal government that saw it through,” he said.

The CSR is a toll-free 350km highway that connects Kuala Krai, Kelantan to Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan. Parts of it have been opened to the public, but it will be fully completed only in 2026.

Last night, PN’s candidate Rizwadi Ismail unveiled his election manifesto, pledging to appoint an Orang Asli as one of his officers, provide free tuition for schoolchildren from low-income families, and coordinate assistance for hostel and university admissions for young people.

The by-election on Saturday is a straight fight between Rizwadi and Azmawi, who is also Kelantan Umno Youth chief. The by-election was called when the seat was declared vacant after assemblyman Azizi Abu Naim ceased to be a member of Bersatu.
