Woman drowns, 3 missing during fishing trip

Kemaman police say the boat, carrying nine fishing enthusiasts from Raub and Gombak, collided with a barge at 6.30am.

PETALING JAYA:
A woman drowned and three others were reported missing after a boat carrying nine fishing enthusiasts from Raub, Pahang, and Gombak, Selangor, collided with a barge in Kemaman waters this morning.

Kemaman district police chief Hanyan Ramlan said the incident occurred about seven nautical miles off Kuala Kemaman at 6.30am.

Hanyan told Bernama the fishing boat was carrying a skipper, crew members and five men and four women, aged between 23 and 79, when the incident occurred.

He said the missing were two men and a woman. The others survived.

“The collision caused the fishing boat to capsize. We are still looking for the barge,” he said.

He said police were still identifying the victims and a search operation was under way.
