An enforcement officer has been arrested on suspicion of accepting about RM120,000 in bribes to cover up cigarette smuggling and to release smuggled goods.

A source said the man, in his 30s, was arrested at 4pm in Keningau by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect sought the bribe to cover up cigarette smuggling activities around Keningau and to release a lorry as well as smuggled goods that were being held by the authorities, the source said.

Sabah MACC director S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest.
