Teen arrested for impersonating hospital staff

However, police say the 14-year-old is not linked to a social media post claiming that an individual has been impersonating a doctor for two months.

PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a teenager suspected of impersonating a staff member at the Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang.

Sepang police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said police received a report from a member of the hospital’s staff yesterday about an unidentified girl in an operating theatre.

The girl claimed she was a medical officer and wanted to assist in a surgery.

He said this morning, the hospital identified the girl in question as the same person who had earlier attempted to register at the counter using a false identity.

The hospital contacted the police, who arrested the 14-year-old girl at the hospital’s lobby at 9am today.

A scrub suit, scrub pants and a lanyard belonging to the hospital were also seized.

An investigation paper has been opened under Section 448 of the Penal Code for trespassing and Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public officer.

If convicted of trespassing, the teenager can be imprisoned for up to three years, fined up to RM5,000, or both.

Impersonating a public officer can result in imprisonment for two years or a fine or both, said Wan Kamarul.

He also advised the public not to speculate or share false information about the incident.
