GEORGE TOWN:
Former Penang executive councillor Phee Boon Poh is reported to be in stable condition after undergoing surgery following a heart attack on Thursday.

He is currently under observation in the cardiac care unit, according to his daughter, Syn Tze, the state assembly member for Sungai Puyu.

She said her father had regained consciousness following surgery last night and was past the critical stage but required careful monitoring.

Yesterday, chief minister Chow Kon Yeow confirmed that Boon Poh, 72, is receiving treatment for a heart attack.

Boon Poh was the assemblyman for Sungai Puyu for four terms before retiring from active politics prior to the state election last year. He was a member of the state executive council from 2008 until last year.
