Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg said the details of these incentives will be announced after a state Cabinet meeting, hinting that the incentives will be more attractive than those offered by other states.
“I do not want to mention it now. If (the incentives are) not equivalent, they could be better (than the incentives by other states).
“We hope Sarawak’s athletes can give their best, become champions, and win the most gold medals,” he said after the handover of the state’s flag to the Sarawak Sukma contingent here today.
Abang Johari said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to attend the 2024 Sukma closing ceremony, which will be held at Sarawak Stadium on Aug 24.
“Sukma 2024 will serve as preparation for Sarawak potentially co-hosting the SEA Games in 2027. We are willing to be a co-host for this international-level sports event,” he said.
Youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh was reported as saying the estimated total cost to organise the SEA Games is RM700 million.
Several state governments have expressed their willingness to co-host the games, including Sarawak, which has agreed to allocate RM350 million.
