PETALING JAYA:
Bersatu’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, has been released from police custody with the expiry of a two-day remand order issued yesterday.

His lawyer, Rafique Rashid Ali, said Badrul was released at 3pm today.

Badrul was arrested on Sunday to assist in an investigation into his allegations of corruption involving a senior naval officer, and remanded yesterday.

The probe relates to the giving of false information under Section 203A of the Penal Code, wrongful communication under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act 1972, and the misuse of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

According to Rafique, Badrul said the authorities should be investigating the allegations of corruption against the naval officer and protecting whistleblowers, rather than the other way around.
