BATU KAWAN:
Factory bus operators have been assured that their concerns about being left out of the government’s diesel subsidy scheme will be brought to the Cabinet’s attention.

Investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said the ministry is prepared to present the bus operators’ concerns to the Cabinet.

Tengku Zafrul said he believes the issue has been raised with the transport, economy and finance ministries, which will provide responses to the concerns.

“As a government, we are committed to listening (to the rakyat’s concerns), even though the investment, trade and industry ministry primarily focusses on the manufacturing sector. We will bring their concerns to the Cabinet,” he told reporters today.

Factory bus operators requested the ministry’s intervention to negotiate with industry stakeholders for a review of the factory bus service agreements. This comes in light of the government’s targeted subsidy scheme, which excluded factory buses.

In June, over 1,200 factory bus operators appealed to the government to include their sector in the subsidised diesel control system, after diesel prices were allowed to float.

The government has set the retail price of diesel in Peninsular Malaysia at RM3.35 per litre from June 10.
