This comes after Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas) asked why Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (PN-Bukit Gantang) was still seated with PN MPs in the House.

“Speaker, Bukit Gantang (Syed Hussin) is labelled PN, but he is not in PN any more. How can he still be sitting there?” Fadhli said.

According to Bernama, Johari said he had yet to receive any written evidence from PN that Syed Hussin was no longer with the opposition coalition.

“There has to be something in black and white from PN for me to remove him (from the bloc’s seats). Bersatu has (sent a letter) but not PN. Our records are with PN, not Bersatu or PAS,” he was quoted as saying.

Syed Hussin and five other MPs ceased to be Bersatu members after failing to respond to a notice to confirm their loyalty to the party. All six had pledged support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim last year.

The others are Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang) and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

Bersatu plans to go to court to challenge Johari’s decision not to vacate their seats.

The six meanwhile have said that they will continue to serve as independent MPs backing the government.
