In a statement today, Sentul police chief Ahmad Sukarno Zahari confirmed that both suspects would appear in court over Rajeswary’s death but did not elaborate on the precise nature of the charges.

Rajeswary, 29, was found dead at her home in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, on July 5. The previous day, the Hindu rights activist had filed a police report against two people for allegedly harassing her on TikTok.

Two suspects were arrested last week – a 35-year-old woman who works as a caretaker at an elderly care centre, and a 44-year-old man who works as a lorry driver.

At the time, Sukarno said the pair were being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation; Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities; and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for insulting behaviour.

The arrests of both suspects followed a police report made by a 39-year-old man on July 6 about threats directed at Rajeswary through the social media platform.

Activist David Marshel called on the government to take action following Rajeswary’s death, saying she was being harassed by several people, most of whom were using pseudonyms or fake accounts.
