PETALING JAYA:
A pasar malam trader has pleaded not guilty to 11 charges of raping and sexually assaulting a disabled 14-year-old girl between March and May in Muar, Johor.

Lim Khim Tai, 47, made his plea in the Muar sessions court after all the charges were read out before judge Abu Bakar Manat, Sinar Harian reported.

According to the charge sheet, Lim faces five charges of rape and six charges of sexual assault against the mentally disabled girl in the bedroom of a house on Jalan Temenggong Ahmad in Muar.

All the offences were allegedly committed between March 8 and May 24 this year.

Lim was charged under Section 376(2)(k) of the Penal Code for rape with the knowledge of the victim’s mental disability, which provides for imprisonment of up to 30 years and whipping, if convicted.

He was also charged under Sections 14(a), 14(b) and 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault on a child, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and whipping, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Danial Munir did not offer bail due to concern that the accused, an acquaintance of the victim’s father, would disturb the victim who is now pregnant.

The court did not allow bail for Lim, who is married, and set Sept 18 for re-mention of the case, the handover of documents and appointment of lawyers.
