Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief Raub Selamat said the policeman, in his 30s, suffered a fractured left hip bone and injuries to his face, chin and right hand.
Raub said the policeman was directing traffic after an accident when a car veered into the right lane at the scene in Jalan Pantai at about 7am.
While the car was being towed away, a silver Proton Wira coming from behind changed lanes and ran into the policeman, who was standing by the side of the tow truck.
“The impact sent the victim crashing on the front windscreen of the car and dropping on the middle of the road,” Raub said in a statement today.
Raub said the motorist, a man in his 30s, only sustained an injury to his left hand. Breathalyser test showed he was positive for alcohol.
In a separate accident in Tumpat, Kelantan, another traffic policeman, aged 28, fractured his left leg when his motorcycle collided with a van while he was on official traffic control duty for a minister’s visit to the border checkpoint at Pengkalan Kubor.
Police have urged witnesses to come forward.
