PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a man for stealing a sports utility vehicle (SUV) that a valet had left by the roadside at a shopping mall along Jalan P Ramlee here yesterday.

Bernama reported that the case went viral on social media after the victim posted about losing the car during valet parking at the shopping mall and that the SUV was tracked to Subang Jaya based on its global positioning system (GPS) device.

Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the SUV was found at USJ 1 Avenue, Subang Jaya, by a police patrol car at 2.35pm.

He said the suspect driving the car tried to escape but was apprehended.

Noor Dellhan said the suspect, who is 58 years old, had two previous convictions for drug offences.

He said the driver, a 31-year-old interior decorator, had handed over the SUV to a valet attendant at 12.50pm.

The attendant moved the car temporarily to the side of the main exit road.

Ten minutes later, the attendant found the SUV missing although the vehicle keys were still with him.

The owner was informed about the theft when he came to claim the SUV at 1.20pm and he immediately contacted the Dang Wangi police control centre, which alerted all police cars to look out for the vehicle.
