Fahmi said the matter needs to be given a closer look and that MPs should be given the opportunity to debate it in the Dewan Rakyat next week.
“We do not yet have complete information regarding the issues related to HRD Corp as mentioned.
“But it may require further scrutiny, and we should allow MPs to debate and human resources minister Steven Sim to provide answers in the Dewan Rakyat first,” he told a press conference following the Cabinet meeting today.
The A-G’s report recommended that the human resources ministry refer HRD Corp’s management to the enforcement agencies after the company failed its audit.
It said the actions and decisions of HRD Corp’s management did not comply with procedures and failed to protect the interests necessary for the company’s objectives.
The Public Accounts Committee also revealed that the company’s investment panel had not reported its investment activities appropriately to its board of directors, with levies collected “aggressively” used for high-risk investments.
The A-G’s report said HRD Corp had amended its key performance indicator goals for 2020 to 2023 without the approval of its board of directors.
Yesterday, Sim said he would file a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over the findings by the PAC and the A-G’s report on HRD Corp, adding that his ministry would not tolerate any violation of the law.
Earlier today, the ministry’s secretary-general, Khairul Dzaimee Daud, said there was no need for any HRD Corp officers to be suspended from their duties in light of the probe being undertaken by MACC. Suspensions would only be imposed if the ministry was conducting the investigation.
The MACC today confirmed receiving documents related to its probe into HRD Corp’s management from Khairul.
