
Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad said the man surrendered himself at the Seberang Perai Selatan police headquarters today.
“The man has been remanded for two days to assist in our investigation,” he said in a Bernama report.
“We will conduct a thorough and transparent investigation.”
It is understood that the alleged incident occurred in Sungai Bakap while the journalist was covering a programme involving deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The incident was reportedly witnessed by several other media representatives.
Pakatan Harapan’s Joohari Ariffin faces Perikatan Nasional’s Abidin Ismail in the contest for the Sungai Bakap seat in Saturday’s by-election.
The seat fell vacant following the death of PAS assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24.
