During the Ministers’ Question Time session in the Dewan Rakyat two days ago, Anwar said the project to bring water from Sungai Perak to the Bukit Merah Reservoir for treatment was expected to supply 1,500 million litres of water daily to northern Perak and Penang.
Anwar said the RM4 billion project, which is being partly implemented to support the newly launched Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park project, is expected to commence this year.
Chow said Penang hopes to receive 700 million litres of water daily but admitted they had not entered into negotiations yet.
Speaking after a Madani programme with the Indian community in Bandar Tasek Mutiara, Nibong Tebal today, Chow said the next step involves water companies from both states negotiating to establish pricing, the volume of water supply to be distributed and other terms.
He said the Penang government had initially wanted to purchase raw water from the Perak government but now it is looking forward to purchasing treated water.
