Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) had called for an audit to verify if government agencies have received allocations intended for opposition MPs.
“I hear that it (the allocation) was given to Kemas. I want to know what has been given to Kemas. It was previously going to be shut down.
“DAP wanted to close Kemas. We (the opposition) fought to defend Kemas,” he said when debating the Audit (Amendment) Bill 2024.
This statement prompted two DAP MPs, Teresa Kok (PH-Seputeh) and RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong), to demand that Shahidan retract the statement.
“We (DAP) have never said that we want to close Kemas. Please,” Kok said.
Deputy speaker Alice Lau then asked Shahidan if he had any proof to support his statement, but he could not provide any.
Shahidan then said what he meant was that Pakatan Harapan wanted to close Kemas and that DAP, as a member of the PH government, had supported shutting down Kemas.
“That is not what you said just now when debating,” Lau retorted.
Both Kok and Rayer also said this interpretation was even worse, compared to the original claim.
After some commotion, Shahidan retracted his statement.
However, Rayer voiced dissatisfaction over the matter, and Lau advised him to file a motion to refer Shahidan to the rights and privileges committee.
