Penampang district police chief Sammy Newton said the body of the 37-year-old woman was found at 8am today.
“Further details will be announced later. The public should not speculate on the matter,” he said.
It was learnt that the woman’s body was found about 400m from the spot where she was last seen with her husband before floodwaters swept her away last night.
A total of 112 flood victims from 40 families had been evacuated to the temporary relief centre at the Penampang Cultural Hall as of this morning.
Meanwhile, the state education department said that 10 schools in four districts had been closed today.
The floods struck following heavy rain from afternoon to night yesterday.
Berita Harian reported that in Tamparuli and Kiulu, 2,000 people had their access cut off after 12 roads were rendered impassable by landslides and trees toppled by the rain.
The public works department said work is being done to clear the landslides and trees.
