
Azizi said he would instead make way for a candidate from the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional unity alliance. “This is not about the contested seat, but about respecting the spirit of camaraderie among the component parties,” he told reporters here today.
The seat was declared vacant on June 19 after the state assembly speaker, Amar Abdullah, said he had been informed by Bersatu that Azizi had ceased to be a party member.
Azizi said today he had sent a letter to Bersatu urging the party to provide clear details regarding the termination of his membership.
Nomination day for candidates is on Aug 3, with polling on Aug 17.
