PETALING JAYA:
The official Malaysian attire introduced by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), which some members of the public criticised as “ugly and uninspiring”, will not be used in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony on July 26, youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh said.

“Reading the comments, (some) thought this is the parade uniform. There is another set for athletes. We have shared the ministry’s views with OCM president Norza Zakaria.

“We have to respect the OCM and its sponsorship contract with Yonex and I leave this to Norza. He can solve it.

“When we go to Paris, we walk as a team and the world at large doesn’t see us as OCM or the ministry. We will all be there to uphold the (good) name of Malaysia,” she said in Kuala Lumpur today, Bernama reported.

Yeoh also insisted that there was no need for Nicol David to replace Hamidin Amin as chef de mission because he is a leader of calibre.

“The proposal to drop a person is not the right way because we must identify the cause of the problem and, in this case, Hamidin is not the cause,” she said.
