KUALA LUMPUR:
Police have arrested seven people in connection with a burglary that occurred on May 31 at a house in Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said today.

The suspects – five foreign nationals and two Malaysians aged 30 to 40 – were apprehended in four operations, he said. An eighth suspect was detained in Thailand on June 14, and Rusdi said police are working towards his extradition.

Rusdi said the case has been referred to the deputy public prosecutor, and that two of the foreign suspects will face charges for burglary under Section 457 of the Penal Code while a Malaysian will be charged with receiving stolen property under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

The two foreigners have also been detained under the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing valid documents.

The remaining four suspects have been released on bail, Rusdi said.

Rusdi said the thieves made off with RM7 million worth of cash and valuables, of which police have recovered more than RM4 million. The items include RM4,450 in cash and 29 luxury watches and jewellery.

Rusdi said the suspects conducted site surveys to identify vulnerable targets for burglary. They also used false identities when registering with residential guards.

“They arrived in a rental car with a false licence plate. However, we tracked them down using CCTV footage,” he said.
