PETALING JAYA:
Police have launched an investigation after a viral video captured two 15-year-old students at a secondary school in Kerian, Perak, bullying one of their juniors.

Perak police chief Yusri Hassan Basri said the incident took place on June 14 but they were only alerted to the matter through the viral video yesterday evening.

“The 13-year-old victim was bullied by two female students aged 15, who were from the same school.

“In the incident, one of the suspects brought the victim to the school toilet. Once the victim arrived in the toilet, the suspects slapped her repeatedly while the incident was being recorded on video,” he said in a statement.

Yusri believed that the incident was caused by the victim being close to the boyfriend of one of the suspects.

A police report was only lodged by the victim today.

“The case has been classified under Section 323 of the Penal Code (for voluntarily causing hurt),” he said.

Meanwhile, the education minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry was also looking into the case.

“The case is our priority and the ministry’s commitment is to tackle bullying in schools by setting regulations and improving guidelines so that cases like this can be avoided,” Bernama quoted her as telling reporters after visiting the Sungai Bakap by-election media centre at the Rakan Muda Complex in Jawi here tonight.
