Don’t be absent, govt MPs told ahead of Dewan meeting

Do not be absent, government MPs were told today ahead of the new Dewan Rakyat meeting which begins tomorrow.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim gave them the reminder when he held a pre-council meeting with government MPs at Seri Perdana today.

“Everyone has been asked to attend Parliament tomorrow. Don’t be absent,” foreign minister Mohamad Hasan told the media when asked about the prime minister’s address at the pre-council meeting, Bernama reported.

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said the diesel subsidy scheme was among the matters discussed at the meeting. “We were briefed on current issues and several bills to be presented. The most important is targeted diesel subsidies,” he said.

Government MPs were briefed to prepare for the debate in the house, and on the government’s legislative agenda and various amendments to the law, he said after attending a Wanita DAP event here today.

Other ministers at the meeting were deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamid, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, defence minister Khaled Nordin, communications minister Fahmi Fadzil, plantation and commodities minister Johari Ghani and health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad.

The Dewan Rakyat will sit from June 24 to July 18.
