KUALA LUMPUR:
Demi Negara, the organisation behind a proposed “Rakyat Lawan Anwar” protest demonstration next week, is not affiliated with any political party, says rally organiser Aidil Yunus.

Aidil, known on social media as “YB Viral”, said he is the rally’s sole organiser and “no political parties are behind this”.

He said the rally’s purpose is to demonstrate the public’s unhappiness with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government.

Aidil said people affected by the removal of diesel subsidies are supportive of the rally and will take part in it, including farmers and tow truck operators.

“From what I know, drivers from Lalamove or Shopee will join us in the rally,” Aidil said at a press conference outside the Dang Wangi police station.

Aidil, along with social media influencers Tunku Intan Abdul Hamid (“Dayangku Intan”), and Siti Zulaikha Olivia (“Mak Iban Olivia”) were summoned by the police today over their involvement in the said rally.

Demi Negara said the trio are being investigated for making statements that could lead to public mischief and for misuse of network facilities. The organisation accused the police of being used as a tool to intimidate critics of Anwar and the government.

The demonstration is scheduled to be held on June 29 in front of Seri Perdana, the prime minister’s official residence in Putrajaya.

Aidil said he is unfazed by the investigation and that they are determined to invite more participants to join the rally.

He said the rally’s several demands for Putrajaya include reimplementing diesel subsidies and providing equal parliamentary allocations for opposition MPs.

“These are all demands from the people,” he said.
