Bullseye: women’s recurve team qualifies for Paris Olympics

Malaysian women defeat their Colombian and British rivals in the quarterfinals and semifinals, but lose to China in the final of the archery competition.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The national women’s recurve team secured a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics when they clinched silver at the ArcheryInParis final Olympic qualifier in Antalya, Turkey, on Friday.

The trio of Ariana Nur Dania Zairi, Nurul Azreena Fazil and Syaqiera Mashayikh qualified on merit by advancing to the final of the qualifier, where they lost narrowly by a 4-5 margin to China’s Yang Xiaolei, Li Jiaman and An Qixuan.

Earlier, they beat Colombia’s Ana Maria Rendon, Valentina Acosta Giraldo and Maira Sepuldiva 6-0 in the quarter-finals, and advanced to the semi-finals where they overcame Great Britain’s Megan Havers, Bryony Pitman and Penny Healey by a 5-3 margin.

China reached the final by defeating Taiwan 6-2.

Previously, Ariana Nur Dania secured her individual qualification for the Olympics in the women’s recurve event by winning gold at the Asian Continental Qualification Tournament in Bangkok last November.

The 2024 Olympic Games will take place in Paris from July 26 to Aug 11.
