Rosmah won’t dispose of jewellery, handbags, watches until injunction heard

Lawyers Shafee Abdullah and Reza Rahim will also file an application to recuse High Court judge Adlin Abdul Majid from presiding over the 1MDB lawsuit against Rosmah Mansor.

1MDB, SRC International and the nine companies filed a lawsuit against Rosmah Mansor and a Singaporean designer last month, seeking to recover a total of US$346 million in misappropriated funds.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Lawyers for Rosmah Mansor gave an undertaking to the High Court today she will not dispose of her jewellery, handbags and watches in her possession until a Mareva injunction is heard.

Lawyers Shafee Abdullah and Reza Rahim indicated this to High Court judge Adlin Abdul Majid during case management.

On June 11, 1MDB, SRC International and nine local and foreign entities linked to them filed for a Mareva injunction to restrain Rosmah from dissipating her assets pending the disposal of their US$346 million lawsuit against the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak.

These entities said they have a “good arguable case” for the recovery of the claimed sum from her.

They further alleged that Rosmah “ought to have assets here and out of the country” that warrant the court handing down a worldwide injunction to freeze her assets.

Separately, Shafee and Reza said they would file an application to recuse Adlin from hearing a 1MDB lawsuit against Rosmah and Singaporean Shabnam Naraindas Daswani, also known as Natasha Mirpuri.

However, they did not provide the reasons why they did not want Adlin to preside over the case.

The court fixed Aug 26 to hear the recusal bid.

Last month, 1MDB, SRC International and the nine companies filed a lawsuit against Rosmah and Shabnam, a fashion designer, seeking to recover a total of US$346 million in allegedly misappropriated funds.

They claimed 1MDB and SRC International’s funds were wrongfully used to purchase multiple items, including jewellery and handbags.

They also claimed the funds were channelled to the recipients through various offshore companies.

Apart from the claimed sum, the plaintiffs are seeking general, aggravated and exemplary damages from the duo.

Lawyers Lee Shih and Lim Chee Wee appeared for 1MDB, SRC International and the others.
