MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the anti-graft agency had acted professionally and had not selectively prosecuted anyone in the case.
He added that MACC acts on reports lodged without accounting for rank or politics.
“I do not agree with (Hamzah’s) statement. We act professionally, no matter whether they are government officials or politicians in the current government.
“If a report and offence are identified, we will charge the person in court. That is my only job. There is no selective prosecution here,” he said at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here today.
On June 5, Hamzah said the prosecution of his son Faisal for allegedly receiving a RM100,000 bribe was a “planned political character assassination” aimed at him as the opposition leader.
He claimed this was being done as the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional unity government, led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, had failed in its efforts to use government agencies to create narratives and level political accusations against Bersatu leaders.
Meanwhile, Azam said MACC had arrested three customs officials related to an imported goods smuggling syndicate in Port Klang.
He said MACC found over RM3 million in cash after the arrests were made.
“We conducted joint intelligence with Singapore to find the parties involved,” he said.
Azam also said there had been no developments in MACC’s efforts to find Adlan Berhan, the son-in-law of former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said Adlan had not contacted MACC to surrender himself, and that the agency was still working with Interpol and other authorities to find him.
