Minister Armizan Mohd Ali said the applicants comprised 59,940 companies as of June 12.
“The ministry expects the number of applications to increase until June 30, in line with the deadline for SKDS recipients who have yet to receive their fleet cards to apply for cash repayments,” he said in a statement.
Armizan said the ministry saw an influx of applications on June 9, the day before the price of diesel was raised to RM3.35 per litre, with 40,264 firms applying for the SKDS for 156,242 vehicles.
The following day, the ministry approved the applications for 19,612 vehicles involving 8,584 companies.
SKDS is a government initiative which allows fleet card holders to purchase diesel at below the retail price, as part of efforts to reduce the burden on public land transport and goods operators.
Yesterday, Armizan said the government would consider expanding the range of vehicles covered by the programme, which currently includes 23 types of commercial vehicles and 10 types of public vehicles.
