Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the number of people to be called would depend on the progress of the investigation, Berita Harian reported.
“Police will investigate all relevant parties and I have also been informed that the health ministry has ordered the closure of the school canteen involved,” he was quoted as saying at a press conference today.
Hussein said a hospital check by the police revealed that while some reported feeling unwell, their condition was not severe.
“So far, the dead are a 17-year-old male and a two-year-old girl,” he said.
Earlier today, the Selangor health department said it found that 82 people experienced food poisoning symptoms after consuming meals at a religious programme for 30 primary schools held at a school in Gombak.
Selangor health director Dr Ummi Kalthom Shamsudin said investigations showed that 82 people, or 33% of the 247 who consumed the food, experienced symptoms.
She said those affected showed symptoms of food poisoning after consuming a breakfast of fried noodles and eggs, which had “changed in taste and appearance”.
The food was provided by an external caterer for the teachers and the programme organisers.
Gombak police chief Noor Ariffin Nasir said the reports on the deaths were received yesterday and police were investigating.
