The pair are the last remaining Malaysians in the tournament after the mixed doubles pair of Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing lost their semi-final to their Chinese opponents at the Istora Senayan stadium in Jakarta yesterday afternoon.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun, ranked 20th in the world, will face world No 2 Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang of China in the title decider. The Chinese pair defeated Denmark’s world No 4 Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 21-13, 21-15 in the other semi-final.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun smashed to a 11-4 lead against the hosts four minutes into the first game, although they later mounted a strong comeback to tie the game at 13-13.

The pairs would exchange points until the Malaysians sealed the game against their world No 29 opponents by two points.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun went ahead 13-10 in the second set, which they went on to win in 20 minutes.

Yesterday afternoon’s mixed doubles semi-final saw Kian Meng-Pei Jing fall 21-16, 21-18 to world No 5 Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin.
