PETALING JAYA:
Police have launched an investigation after a couple claimed that their 17-month-old daughter had been abused by her babysitter at a daycare centre in Kajang last week.

Kajang police chief Zaid Hassan said the girl’s 26-year-old father filed a complaint last Wednesday, alleging that his daughter was treated in a rough manner by the babysitter.

He claimed that the babysitter had force-fed his toddler by pulling on her hair and squeezing her nose while feeding her, Berita Harian reported.

“The complainant was informed of the matter by another babysitter when he picked his daughter up from the daycare centre last Tuesday.

“A medical officer at a hospital confirmed that the child suffered a soft tissue injury,” he said.

Zaid said the daycare centre had been operating for three years but there were suspicions that it had yet to obtain an operating licence. He also said the centre currently only had nine children under its care with three babysitters also acting as teachers.

“The babysitter involved has already been summoned to give a statement,” he said, adding that investigations were being held under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect.

The crime is punishable with a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment not exceeding 20 years, or both, upon conviction.
