The chapter’s deputy chairman Mohamad Abdul Hamid said the state leadership received the names of potential candidates from its branches and division in Nibong Tebal.
The Sungai Bakap state seat comes under the Nibong Tebal parliamentary constituency.
Also present were Nibong Tebal MP Fadhlina Sidek and Penang DAP vice-chairman Zairil Khir Johari.
Separately, PKR Youth chief Adam Adli said his wing will also suggest several potential candidates who are able to represent young people. A meeting will be held tonight with other young wings of parties in the unity government coalition.
“Each side in the party is given the chance to put forward their candidates,” he said. “We will give our full support to whichever candidate is chosen by the party.”
Also present were Nibong Tebal MP Fadhlina Sidek, who is also education minister, and Penang infrastructure, transport and digital committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari.
The state seat fell vacant following the death of its incumbent, Nor Zamri Latiff, on May 24 due to stomach inflammation.
Zamri, who was Nibong Tebal PAS chief, won the seat in the state election in August, defeating PH’s Nurhidayah Che Rose with a 1,563- vote majority after securing 15,433 votes.
