Minor earthquake hits coastal Sabah

The meteorological department says the magnitude 3.3 earthquake poses no tsunami threat to Malaysia.

The epicentre of the earthquake was 50km east of Semporna, Sabah.

Sabah’s coastal area was hit by a minor earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale at 2.49pm today, according to the meteorological department (MetMalaysia).

MetMalaysia said the earthquake posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia.

“The epicentre was located at 4.4° north and 118.9° east, with a depth of 10km, and 50km east of Semporna, Sabah,” it said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
