PUTRAJAYA:
The domestic trade and cost of living ministry has smashed a syndicate engaged in the illegal transportation of misappropriated diesel in Ipoh through the use of modified tankers.

The ministry’s enforcement director-general, Azman Adam, said a modified truck was caught refuelling subsidised diesel at a petrol station during Ops Tiris 3.0 on May 24.

“The syndicate’s modus operandi involved using a truck modified with an additional tank to fill diesel at several petrol stations before collecting and distributing it through the black market,” he said in a statement today.

Azman said upon inspecting the tanker, authorities discovered 1,700 litres of diesel stored in an additional tank within the truck’s cargo space, connected to the vehicle’s original tank.

The truck, the additional tank containing diesel, hose pipes, a pump motor, and several related documents and tools were seized, with the total value of seized items estimated at RM23,655.

The 41-year-old truck driver was also arrested.

Azman said investigators are working to identify other individuals or companies potentially involved in the case.
