PETALING JAYA: A section of the Pan Borneo Highway in Betong, Sarawak, has been hit by flash floods after four days of continuous heavy rain led to a nearby river overflowing its banks.
The Sarawak public works department (JKR) said Sungai Batang Skrang overflowed its banks and flooded several locations in the area, while the high tide had also caused a water backflow from the river.
As a stop-gap measure, flood markers were placed at flooded locations to warn road users.
“Based on surveillance at 5pm, the floodwaters have started to subside with several vehicles capable of using the road,” JKR said in a statement. However, highway users should exercise caution when passing through the area.
