Address BlackRock memo to Khazanah, Loke tells Wan Fayhsal

The transport minister says his ministry only serves as a regulator for Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd.

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook told Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal that the transport ministry is not involved in MAHB’s business deals.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Transport minister Loke Siew Fook has told Bersatu man Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal to send his memorandum against the planned acquisition of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to the right authority.

He told the Machang MP the transport ministry only serves as a regulator for MAHB and is not involved in its business deals.

“They knocked at the wrong door. If you want to send the memorandum, you should go to Khazanah (Nasional Bhd).

“My advice to Wan Fayhsal is to find the correct address,” Loke said at a press conference here today.

This comes after a group of about 30 people held a demonstration in front of the transport ministry today to protest against the sale of MAHB shares to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP).

Joined by Wan Fayhsal, Sekretariat Solidariti Palestin submitted a memorandum of protest to a ministry representative calling for the sale of MAHB shares to GIP to be halted.

The group maintained that GIP is owned by New York City-based investment firm BlackRock, which has alleged links to Israel.

On Wednesday, Khazanah and EPF said they planned to take over MAHB through a consortium and privatise the airport operator.

Khazanah will increase its ownership in MAHB from 33.2% to 40% and EPF from 7.9% to 30%, giving Malaysian investors a 70% stake in MAHB. Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) and GIP will hold the remaining 30%.

BN-PH tie-up for Sabah polls?

Loke, the DAP secretary-general, brushed off speculation of a tie-up between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional for the coming Sabah elections.

He simply said a decision would be made closer to the polls.

On Tuesday, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hinted at the two coalitions collaborating after the state elections, expressing hope that BN-PH’s federal cooperation would be “replicated in Sabah”.

A source had also told FMT that BN and PH were expected to team up against the Hajiji Noor-led Gabungan Rakyat Sabah at the polls.

The last Sabah elections was held in September 2020. The state assembly will be automatically dissolved by October next year, after which the polls must be held within 60 days.

The current GRS-led Sabah government comprises representatives from Hajiji’s coalition, PH and a handful of Umno assemblymen.
