KUALA LUMPUR:
An unemployed man was sentenced to six months in jail by the sessions court here today after he pleaded guilty to three counts of insulting Prophet Muhammad on Facebook two years ago.

Judge Siti Aminah Ghazali meted out the sentence on Lim Yu Hui, 29, after he admitted to all three charges, and ordered him to serve a six-month prison sentence on each charge, to run concurrently from today.

According to the charges, Lim was accused of knowingly posting three nasty comments on the “Halloween Day” Facebook page with the intent to hurt others.

He did so from a workshop in Jalan Cecily, Sandakan, Sabah, between 9.24am and 9.30am on Sept 18, 2022.

The posts were read at a residential unit in Pantai Sentral here at 10am on the same date.

The charges were framed under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for using network facilities to transmit communication deemed to be offensive or annoying to another person.

Deputy public prosecutor Faten Hadni Khairuddin said the posts were made deliberately over a few days with the intention of hurting others.

Lim, who was not represented in court, said he could not pay a fine and was willing to go to prison because he had been dismissed by his company over the case.

“I regret my actions,” he said.
