KUALA LUMPUR:
A former political secretary to opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin claimed trial at the sessions court here today to two charges of accepting bribes amounting to RM350,000 to help a company secure a project related to the police force.

Sayed Amir Muzzakkir Al Sayed Mohamad, 42, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before judge Azura Alwi.

He was charged with accepting RM100,000 from Nexuscorp Group Sdn Bhd managing director Wan Azhar Yusof as an inducement for the company to secure a tender worth over RM381 million.

The contract was meant for the maintenance and supply of the infrastructure, server, and software for the police’s radio system, RMPNET.

He was also accused of accepting another RM250,000 from Wan Azhar as an inducement for the same purpose.

The offences allegedly took place at Solaris Dutamas on Dec 4 and Dec 16, 2020, respectively.

The charges were framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, punishable under Section 24(1) by up to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine of at least five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

The court granted Sayed Amir bail of RM60,000 with one surety and ordered him to surrender his passport until the disposal of the case.

He was also ordered to report to the MACC office in Kuala Lumpur once a month.

Sayed Amir was represented by lawyer Yunos Shariff while deputy public prosecutor Zander Lim appeared for the prosecution.

The court fixed July 12 for case mention.
