SEPANG:
The Malaysian quarantine and inspection services department (Maqis) confiscated a Pomeranian dog without a valid import permit at KLIA on Monday.

Selangor Maqis director Sobri Hashim said an Iranian couple who arrived on a flight from Turkey had attempted to bring the dog into the country.

“Two Maqis enforcement officers detected the entry of the Pomeranian at around 6.30pm at the department’s office in Terminal 1,” he said in a statement.

Sobri said the case is being investigated under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011, punishable under Section 11(3) of the same act.

Section 11(3) provides for a fine of not more than RM100,000 or imprisonment for up to six years, upon conviction.
