PETALING JAYA: A 35-year-old parking attendant was charged at the George Town magistrates’ court with obstructing the duties of a sentry at the Dato’ Keramat police station in Penang.
The accused, whose name was given as just Supramaniam, was arrested at the Dato’ Keramat police station last Sunday after he “drunkenly trespassed” into the station and allegedly tried to snatch a policeman’s gun at about 4.45am.
Supramaniam claimed trial to the charge under Section 186 of the Penal Code after it was read before magistrate Nadratul Naim Saidi, Bernama reported.
Nadratul fixed bail at RM5,000 with one surety and set June 20 for case mention.
Supramaniam’s lawyer Ranjit Singh Sandhu had appealed for a lower bail amount on grounds that his client was only a parking attendant.
