The ex-employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the country’s sole rail operator should have been more selective and avoided taking risks that can ruin its reputation and business strategy.
“(This is all the more crucial given that) it is one of the biggest benefactors of the transport and finance ministries,” he told FMT.
The ex-employee was commenting on PAS’s criticism of KTMB for renting out one of its coaches for a dance festival recently.
According to Hitz FM, the Pinkfish Express dance festival had taken place inside a KTMB coach that was travelling around Kuala Lumpur.
Photos and videos of the event shared on Pinkfish Express’s social media platforms show party goers dancing in the coach while DJs performed.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the event ran against “eastern culture which upholds good manners, modesty and moderate entertainment”.
The ex-employee said he agreed with PAS’s response, describing the event as an “immoral activity”.
“It should not have happened,” he added.
KTMB had, in recent years, embarked on new initiatives to generate revenue from sources other than ticket sales.
The ex-employee said such initiatives were implemented to increase profits which had suffered as a result of a drop in ticket sales and higher operating costs.
One such initiative is the Chillax Coach, which is an empty coach that can be transformed into a karaoke lounge, a venue for indoor games or a surau.
