The body of the suspect was buried at 12.30pm today at a grave at the end of the Kampung Sungai Tiram Muslim cemetery, reported Berita Harian.
The burial was attended by a few villagers, along with police officers who monitored the situation.
Apart from ruling that the suspect’s body be buried apart from the graves of other people, the Johor fatwa committee ruled that burial arrangements for the suspect’s body could only be conducted at his family’s home or the hospital where his body was brought to.
They said this was as opposed to a mosque or surau.
The committee, which met on Friday, said the ruling on the suspect’s remains was a show of condemnation for his actions, especially for killing the two policemen who were safeguarding the nation’s security.
“The committee urges the public not to get involved or show sympathy towards the suspect for his actions,” it said in a statement.
Last Friday, the masked suspect attacked the Ulu Tiram police station at about 2.45am armed with a gun and a parang, killing two policemen and injuring another before being shot dead at the scene.
