PETALING JAYA:
Bersatu’s notice demanding that members pledge their loyalty to the party is “meaningless”, says Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, who has refused to answer it.

“I will wait for whatever action they will take (after 14 days), and if a by-election happens, I will contest in it.

“I’ll prove that what they are doing is not right. They are ruining the minds of the rakyat and disturbing MPs in carrying out their duties,” Berita Harian reported him as saying after meeting flood victims at Kampung Jelutung in Changkat Ibol, Bukit Gantang, Perak, today.

He was asked to comment on the notice issued by Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin to all of its elected representatives, requiring them to confirm their loyalty to the party within 14 days.

Syed Hussin said he expects all seven elected representatives who have pledged their support to the federal and Selangor state governments to act accordingly and give Bersatu a wake-up call.

Asked which party he would represent if a by-election was called in his constituency, he said he was not ready to say just yet.

Yesterday, Hamzah said there were special instructions in the letters for the seven elected representatives, though he did not disclose these special instructions.

He said the failure to acknowledge receiving the letters and replying within 14 days would see them automatically stripped of their party membership.

Apart from Syed Hussin, the five Bersatu MPs who have pledged their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim are Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang).

Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari announced last March that he now supports Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari’s administration.
