Two men with criminal records – one for 27 cases, and the other 33 – were brought to the magistrates’ court in Muar, Johor, today on charges of possessing stolen goods and breaking into a public university hostel in Pagoh last month.

Richi Ilango, 20, and Logenraj Arumugam, 21, pleaded not guilty after the charges against them were read separately before magistrate Fatin Dalilah Khalid, Harian Metro reported.

Logenraj faces five charges, including two for drug-related crimes. Richi faces one charge.

According to the first to third charges, Logenraj is accused of possessing stolen tablets, mobile phones and laptops belonging to three students from International Islamic University Malaysia’s Pagoh campus at Jalan Panchor, Muar.

The three offences, which allegedly took place at 1.30pm on April 15, are punishable under Section 411 of the Penal Code with imprisonment of up to five years, or a fine, or both, if convicted.

The other two charges are under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of 3.15g of methamphetamine, and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act after Logenraj tested positive for drug abuse.

Logenraj pleaded guilty to the second charge and was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment starting from the date of his arrest on April 15.

Richi was charged with breaking into the hostel at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn in Pagoh, under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass.

He faces a jail sentence of up to three years, or a RM3,000 fine, or both, if convicted.

The court allowed Logenraj bail of RM5,000 for the three charges under Section 411 of the Penal Code and RM3,000 under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Richi was allowed bail of RM2,000.

Remention was fixed for June 25 for handover of documents and appointment of lawyers.
