A source close to the matter said the message was based on input provided by the customer in the “delivery instruction” section of its website.
“The receipt was printed the same way it was for any other order,” the source told FMT.
“However, the derogatory message was not written by anyone from the pizza chain.”
A picture of the receipt, from an outlet in Penang, is currently making the rounds on social media.
FMT is withholding the name of the pizza chain pending an official response.
Today’s incident follows two recent controversies surrounding the word “Allah”.
On March 13, photographs of socks with the word “Allah” at a KK Mart outlet in Bandar Sunway were circulated on social media, after which the convenience store chain issued an immediate apology.
On April 7, shoe company Vern’s Holding Sdn Bhd apologised for the logo design of a line of high-heeled shoes that appeared to resemble the Arabic script for the word “Allah”.
The company agreed the design could be misinterpreted and said it had no intention of designing a logo aimed at belittling or insulting any religion or belief.
